Professor Peter Bridgewater

Professor Peter Bridgewater is an adjunct Professor at the University of Canberra and visiting fellow of the Australian National University.

He has been the Non-Executive Chair of the UK Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC); Secretary General, Ramsar Convention on wetlands; Director, Division of Ecological Sciences, UNESCO; Chief Science Advisor, Environment Australia, and Chief Executive, Australian Nature Conservation Agency. Bridgewater chaired the International Whaling Commission (1995 – 1997). His research interests are in the role of people in driving and adapting to global change, the types of governance and legal framework needed to manage such change, and the effects of such change on the biosphere.
